Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
