Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
