Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
