No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

by Gaige on December 3rd, 2019

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
