Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
