NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
