Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
