Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
