Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
