Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
