by Gaige on October 10th, 2021
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
