Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
